Why Should I Not Place Wooden Cutting Boards In The Dishwasher?

Placing wooden cutting boards in the dishwasher is extremely harmful. You should not run it in the dishwasher whether it is a bamboo cutting board or a hardwood cutting board.

If you put them in the dishwasher then you have to face many problems like a deviation from flatness, reducing the duration, cracking, and so on.

Wrap

Putting wooden cutting boards in the dishwasher causes digression from the flatness of the cutting board.

Cracking

Cracking Wooden Cutting Boards

Washing wooden cutting boards in the dishwasher can make cracks on it.

First-time washing might cause small cracking but continuously washing can cause a huge cracking on wooden cutting boards.

Cracking reduces the smoothness of the surface of the cutting board. And so you may use it for a long time.

Reducing The Duration

Woodcutting boards usually last for a year or more. But wrap, and cracking can make your wooden cutting board out of commission.

How Can I Wash My Cutting Board

As we previously suggested, you should wash your wooden cutting board by hand. Cleaning wooden cutting boards is not that tough work.

You can wash the wooden cutting board while maintaining some steps for making it clean and hygienic.

Cleaning

Pre-scrubbed the leftover food from the wooden cutting board and rinse it with hot water through spraying.

Do not remove the leftover foods through brushes or scourers that are too coarse-grained which may give scratches to your board. Use a soft sponge or cloth to remove the remaining food or dirt.

Spray sanitizer all over your cutting board and leave it for 20-30 seconds after wiping with a dry cloth. It is safe to use sanitizer on your wooden cutting board.

Purifying with Chlorine-based Bleach

Often we chop raw meats and fish on the wooden cutting board. The wooden cutting board may remain after washing it.

That is why you need extra care for washing after cutting raw meats and fish.

Mix a teaspoon of chlorine-based bleach with two pints of water. Then spray it all over the board. After a few minutes, rinse it with a soft cloth.

Drying

After cleaning and sanitizing, now it’s time to dry the wooden cutting board. Drying is very important, especially for wooden materials.

Because if you let your wooden cutting board wet it will damage soon.

Never dry them under direct sunlight. There is a possibility of revealing cracks soon if you dry them under direct sunlight.

Oiling

Once the wooden cutting board is dry, rub some oil over it. Cooking oil or food-safe mineral oil is recommended for it.
