The Bosch dishwasher is a convenient kitchen appliance with seven different wash cycles.

However, it can sometimes stop draining the water due to operating incorrectly or some other malfunction.

Whatever the reason is, you must know how do I force my Bosch dishwasher to drain to complete the cycle.

The following we have described the two simplest and most effective methods to force the Bosch dishwasher to drain and some troubleshooting to prevent further problems.

How Do I Force My Bosch Dishwasher To Drain?

The most effective way to force a Bosch dishwasher to work is to reset the unit using the control panel.

You can also fix the error by unplugging the power supply. If the power supply is difficult to access, switch the circuit breaker to turn off the power supply.

How To Reset The Drain On A Bosch Dishwasher

After using it for at least 3 to 5 years continuously, chances are that your Bosch dishwasher can show some malfunction including stops draining.

Fortunately, resetting the drain on the Bosch dishwasher is quite easy, especially with these methods.

Use The Control Panel

Some people feel it is difficult to reset the Bosch dishwasher as its control panel is placed on the upper door.

The reason is that the control panel remains hidden, making it a little bit tough to access.

However, a handy instruction manual makes it easy to find the control panel and fix the error.

Press The Start Button
Press The Start Button

If your Bosch dishwasher is already stuck in the drain cycle and the water doesn’t run down, keep the door closed until the cycle doesn’t finish.

Otherwise, it can cause water damage to the floor.

Instead, press down the start button until the display shows the on or active light.

It may take up to 5 seconds to indicate the light until the cycle finishes. Considering the model of your Bosch dishwasher, you may need to press the drain or cancel button.

Let The Water Drain

If the dishwasher stops during the cycle, the water won’t flow through the jets. In this situation, wait around ten minutes so the water can drain.

Then you can open up the door. The time can be short based on the cycle running on the dishwasher.

You can also put your hand inside the unit to check if its excessive heat too accesses the drain hose.

Check The Drain Hose

If the washer becomes cool, slide the front bottom panel of the unit to get access to the drain hose. You can use a flashlight to improve visibility.

Fix Any Clogs Or Kinks

Sometimes Bosch dishwashers stop draining due to a vent or clogged drain hose. So check these errors, run the hose under water or apply a level wire hanger to fix the issues.

Re-insert the drain hose to its exact position and secure it firmly using the clamp. Later, we’ll explain the four most common causes of Bosch dishwashers that stop draining.

Re-Start The Machine

Carefully clear all the error codes on your dishwasher and then restart it. Depending on the model, you can restart the unit from the drain cycle or may need to start a new wash cycle.

Perform A Manual Reset

Unplug The Machine

This will help you to clean the dishwasher of any stored settings and prevent any future problems. After plugging in the dishwasher, it will let you reset the unit easily.

Be careful while removing the dishwasher’s plugged and make sure the dishwasher is clean of any standing water.

Wait around 4 minutes after disconnecting the dishwasher and connecting it back up.

Reset The Circuit Breaker

Sometimes the power plug becomes tough to access to disable the power of the unit.

The reason is that the plug may be placed behind an unmovable machine or water may cover the plug.

In this case, turn the circuit breaker off to cut power. To do so, find the home’s breaker box and pick the right switch matching the kitchen.

Flip the switch on the circuit breaker and wait around 4 minutes before flipping back into the previous position.

Check The Control Panel

Check the control panel and make sure that it doesn’t display any error codes.

After that, press the start or drain cycle to remove the existing water from the bottom of the tub.

If the dishwasher still doesn’t clean the water, it means there is an issue with the pump.

The clogged drain hose can also be the source of the problem. In both cases, you have to open the dishwasher up and troubleshoot the parts.

Troubleshooting Of Bosch Dishwasher Not Draining

Finding the source of the problem makes it easier to solve it as well as helps to become more aware of it in the future.

The following are some troubleshooting tips to diagnose the errors:

Clogged Air Gap

Wondering where the air gap in the Bosch dishwasher is? Though all the dishwashers don’t have an air gap, some include a slight cap of sorts on top of the sink.

Unscrew the cover and clean it properly.

Obstructed Filter

If the filter of your Bosch dishwasher gets clogged, it can stop draining the water. Therefore, you will notice your unit is full of water after completing the cycle.

To fix it, remove the bottom rack of the unit to get access to the filter tube. Then rotate the bu turning anti-clockwise and removing the debris and food.

Clogged Drain Line

Clogged Drain Line

Inspect the drain line that runs from the dishwasher through the garbage disposal or sink. This place can get clogged up very easily.

If so, take the drain hose out and clean it thoroughly, especially the fittings close to the garbage disposal.

Drain Pump Failure

Drain pumps move water through the hose. If it fails, the water inside the dishwasher won’t drain.

Use a multi-miter to check the continuity of the drain pump. If you find any interruption, replace the pump as it can’t be repaired.

Final Words

Now troubleshoot all the possibilities and apply either method to reset your Bosch dishwasher.

If the problem still exists and wondering how do I force my Bosch dishwasher to drain, call a qualified repair specialist.

In most cases, the above-mentioned methods should do the tricks and let you restore the performance of your dishwasher at home without investing any cost except effort.
